And for good reason! I admit, it scared the hell outta me when I first played it. Even today, with increasingly sophisticated 3D action games DOOM's gameplay is classic. Get it now, even if you've already played it ... it's still fun. But just in case you've never played it before (play it now!) this game was revolutionary because of both its technical prowess and its amazing game design by a team of supremely talented developers at id Software. You play as a space marine who needs to shoot up a bunch of demons and stuff. (Not the 'official' storyline but pretty much all you need to know.) The game has an amazing 'feel' that leads to people still playing it enthusiastically even today. It helped that a huge modding community started making new maps for it, and even total conversions. The game just celebrated its 25th birthday as of December 2018!

Play DOOM in Browser
Game WILL be saved after closing your browser. It will only save if you explicitly use a save feature yourself IN THE GAME ITSELF and YOU MUST QUIT THE GAME TO DOS to make sure your save is retained, don't just close the window!
CTRL-F12 attempts to speed up game, CTRL-F11 attempts to slow it down.

Doom 3 was officially re-released in 2019 in a new official port derived from the previous Doom 3: BFG Edition reissue by Panic Button. This version is available on Bethesda.net for the Nintendo Switch, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and the PC (running Windows OS).
The port was hailed as being of excellent quality for the consoles (especially compared to initially botched reissue of Doom and Doom II), offering a stable 60 FPS on the Microsoft and Sony consoles, and only minor slowdowns in the larger areas on the Switch. For the PC however it is considered inferior to both the original edition and the BFG Edition, due to the loss of the console, the multiplayer mode and its maps, and the BFG Edition's classic Doom games.
Compared to the BFG Edition, it does allow the player to re-enable dynamic shadows from the flashlight.
